Exciting Event:

Charity Number: 1023557
On Friday 10th February, Friends of Balliol will be hosting the 'Polar Plunge' at Balliol Lower School.
This cold water swim will involve a team of staff, governors and Friends of Balliol taking a ‘midnight dip’, aiming to swim continuously as part of a relay team between the hours of 11pm-1am.
We are aiming to raise as much money as possible to contribute towards much needed resources for the school, as Balliol Lower transitions to Primary status in September 2017.
All sponsorship is gratefully received, supporting us in what will be a very chilly challenge!

Thank you!

We hope that our website provides a helpful guide to our school. However, whilst we hope that it provides useful information and an introduction to Balliol, it cannot fully convey the supportive and friendly atmosphere of our school. We encourage all prospective families to visit during the school day to see us in action and make an informed decision about whether Balliol is right for you and your child.

We are a community Lower School, maintained by Bedford Borough.  Balliol is based on a very large and well-resourced site, with playing fields, an outdoor swimming pool and well-equipped classes. Having extended our provision to include the former Hastingsbury pre-school in September 2013 we now provide continuous education for children aged from two to nine.

At Balliol we believe in an aspirational curriculum which offers all children memorable experiences within an exciting,

challenging and creative environment alongside effective teaching of key skills for life and learning. We see parents as partners in the education of their children and greatly value their involvement in school life. Working in partnership with our community, we believe that we can lay foundations for success that will equip your child to become a confident and aspirational learner as well as a responsible and compassionate citizen.

In January 2017 Ofsted judged Balliol to be a good school. It said that Balliol had created

"a highly inclusive school where all pupils are welcomed and valued. Pupils are taught that all people are equally valuable and that they should not judge others on, for example, the colour of their skin or their religion. As a result, pupils develop good attitudes that prepare them well for life in modern British society."

We are very proud of our school and its community and look forward to sharing our success with new and existing families who share our vision.

Kind regards

Kylie Storey
